AF18 had a fantastic response to the Call for Special Sessions – we received a total of 218 session proposals. 73 different countries were involved in the session proposals as organisers or partners.

The Review Process

Each session proposal was reviewed by at least two, and in most cases 3, independent international reviewers (see the list of reviewers below). The next step was to hold a work group session in Cape Town with our local partners and stakeholders, the Programme work Group. They grouped the proposals into those that would be accepted, those that should be modified or opened up to be more inclusive, those that could be merged with another session and those that should be rejected.  This was a very difficult task, given the high calibre of the proposals, especially as we can only accept 120 for the final programme.

The SteerCom ratified the final decisions and organisers have now been notified of the results.
